A Very German Afternoon

Today started out kinda normal. We went and looked at cars and came home at lunch time. I went back into Munich to look at more cars (whee!) and Lisa stayed home since she wasn't feeling too well. It was a good thing she did, too.
Our kitchen sink had a pretty sizable leak. The landlord sent someone over on Monday. He was supposed to arrive at 4, but he showed up at 6:15. He took one look under our sink and said that he needed parts and would come back Tuesday. Our landlord emailed us Tuesday morning and informed us that he would be there between 3 and 4. So, we spent yesterday afternoon hanging around the apartment, only to have him no-show. Whee! This brings us to today, when he was scheduled to arrive at 3. Owing, I'm sure, to the fact that Germany had a soccer match at 4, he wanted to be done with our stupid plumbing job, so he showed up at 1:15. Which is why it good that Lisa was here.
So, that brings us to the afternoon. As previously stated, I was in town looking at cars. Based on the S Bahn schedule, it looked like I would be back at about 3:45, so Lisa met me at the train station so that we could find somewhere to sit down and have a beer and watch the German-South Korea World Cup match with some locals. We decided on the Gasthof Zur Post, which is a cute little inn right down the road from us.

It might be hard to see in this picture, but every window has a window box with hydrangeas in them. Like this:

As I've stated before (and it will come up again later), window boxes are a competitive sport, at least in this part of Bavaria.
Anyway, we headed inside to the restaurant/bar (they seem to be interchangeable here) and sat at a table next to a group of 6 or 7 older gentlemen to watch the match. I ordered a Weißbier (because that's what I do) and a Schnitzel (because, Germany!) and sat back to watch the match. The match was 0-0 at the half, so time to order another beer. Lisa joined me this time and got a Helles. Midway through the 2nd half, with the game still 0-0, it was time for dessert! The Germans love all things apple when it comes to dessert, so we tried a different apple dessert (not the standard Apfelstrudel). Instead, we got these lovely apple "rings" with cinnamon ice cream and whipped cream. Yum!

We continued to watch and listen to the German spoken around us, none of which I understood, but I doubt if it was complimentary of the German team, who gave up two goals late, ending their wold cup run.
Remember those window boxes at the inn? Our apartment has one on each balcony and they contained nothing but weeds. So, we decided to stop by the local garden center and pick up a few plants to put in. The "flower" box is below and we put strawberries and herbs in the other.

All things considered, a very Bavarian afternoon. Have a bier and eat a schnitzel and apfel dessert while watching soccer (er, football) and then go home and work on your window box. We're almost natives! Except for that pesky language thing...
